Most scripts broken for version 2.xx
Any scripts that use the @ key with a trigger that waits on any of the following will not work now:
Average Interval Lag:
0 hundredths
That's almost all of the decent ones, so public scripts are useless with 2.xx
Good luck noobs.

Noobs have been screwd for years, the public scripts are crapola!
Now, they can play on my server, where my settings take the "bite"out of most of the aggressive scripts, and still use Swath.

You just called the public scripts of several great scripters crap. Let me mention a few that have released most IF NOT ALL of thier scripts to the public.
Cherokee, SupG, Rammar, Jhereg, Oz, Mind Dagger, Bounty Hunter, Xide, Big D, Lonestar, etc. etc. etc.
I'm thinking that it's not the public scripts that are crapola, but the person that tries to use them without learning the game and how to use scripts first.
In case you are confused, that would be YOU.

Even if you can't fix your scripts because they are compiled,
you can see if they are hanging waiting on the above. Then just
run a little scripty that waits for @ outgoing and sends :
Average Interval Lag:
0 hundredths
on SS to give the script waiting for the @ stuff to carry on.
This 'work around' by Vid Kid is a quick fix, but it'll keep the
odd public script going until new releases are out.
Don't worry noobs.

I'm as stupid as they come when it comes to scripts. I've managed to work around this new speed bump. If I can do it anyone can do it

Now that I'm learning script play, very few of the public scripts are used as released. Most that I use now are created or modified by Xanos or T0yman. I've spoken to Lonestar about the public pdrop scripts, and he has validated my point, public scripts are weaker than the private scripts.
I can see why script play is so much fun for those who write scripts. It's fun for me to ask for something, then help them test it. But, as a player who does not write scripts, I feel as if I'm riding the shirt-tales of those who do.
In BOTE we're no longer playing TW, we're playing script wars. BUT, with one big distinction, my corpmates prefer me at the keys, and we have fun. We have good laughs over our screw-ups and still beleive we can win this game. Muahahahaha....
Re: Most scripts broken for version 2.xx
We fixed the Traitor's tbuster script before 2.xx was ever released. Sig even posted a tbust m()mbot module that works with 1.03 and 2.xx That was over a year ago. PM me with an email and I will send them both to you.

Although against my better judgment, I will also add that changes in Tradewars v2.xx had also affected server-side scripts. I had to rewrite most of our scripts just to adjust to the changes. Our site had been 100% automated and when changes came into being, that was the first batch of scripts that were affected. Now I have two sets- one for v1.xx and one for v2.xx. I will say that this was something I had not wanted to spend time on doing.
We learned from these scripts and the mentioned script creators D mentioned were some of our inspiration to learn from.

She doesnt understand Daala, I also learned scripting by opening peoples public scripts and picking them apart!!! Allot of the scripts I use are actually public, some I have modded for edit specific or situational specific play.

She understands. You don't seem to understand that the majority of people don't want to play that way. Why do you think that every popular MMO goes to extensive lengths to prevent scripting?TheButcher wrote:She doesnt understand Daala, I also learned scripting by opening peoples public scripts and picking them apart!!! You are comparing apples to oranges with MMO's and scripting, Micro.
Most MMO's already have scripts built into it- all I have to do is click on an icon and it will execute a skill. Imagine having to type out "move to orc, swing axe, etc" instead of using your mouse KB to move and act. As it is, most MMO's DO allow for some scripting, using the LUA language. This game is built completely on text. Having a mouse doesn't give you any sort of advantage whatsoever.

Exactly, but they do not allow automation. This is the area that scripting in TradeWars has gotten out of control.Oso wrote:As it is, most MMO's DO allow for some scripting

I disagree. There is room for a lot of automation in some MMO's. Some tasks in TW can be automated as well. However, you cannot automate to the level you are claiming. You really cannot launch on script called "WinGame.cts", sit back, and tell the sysop to rebang the game after a couple of days.
You can have a pile of scripts and still not be a good player if you do not know how to use them. There is not one script that will win you a game. In what way can I automate myself a win in TW?
